My many diaries are filled with images and notes. As I've discussed before that creative diary serves a space where I record information, thoughts and ideas. The inspiration often remains in a book for months before I work on it, but it's noted and I am always able to reference it.
It seems that I am inspired in specific areas, namely the bush and nature. Books and reading. A passage, word or phrase will pop out. Sometimes it is paging through magazines, photographs or simply going about my daily routine. It could be information that filters through in movies or quiet conversations with a friend. As an artist if you are 'awake' to the possibility the muse will seek you out.
Once an idea has sparked, then it is a matter of time before the image becomes reality. I sit back and choose what medium and size the image will be. Once this has been established, then it's a matter of deciding if it will evolve into a series of work (that often happens) or simply one image. I then start researching and collecting appropriate information to create the images.
I do extensive resources as I need the images to be detailed and in specific poses. Luckily I have a lot of images and books to page through. However, always be aware of copy right. But that is for another time.
Many times before a show I 'burn the midnight oil' which is bliss as the images start to pile up and creativity moves from thought, to hand to paper. These are some of my happiest times.
